No1 Draft Pick is excited to announce that Matt McQuade has joined the team as an expert contributor.

One of Australia’s most respected basketball writers and broadcasters, Matt has been involved with the sport of basketball since discovering it as an 11 year old in 1979 at St Patricks College Strathfield. In the early days he played basketball right up to Year 12, playing for the College’s First V in his final two years before playing for the University of Wollongong.

He was a fan of the old City of Sydney Astronauts and later the Sydney Supersonics, before beginning a love affair in 1988 with the newly-created Sydney Kings that has lasted nearly 30 years as one of the team’s very first season ticket holders.

Matt began his media career in 1999 as a weekly contributor to national periodical Pro Basketball Today and in that same year commenced writing for the Sydney Kings on both their website and game night programs. He was the editor of Kings News from 2005 to 2008, and wrote for PBT until 2005 before becoming a regular contributor for both the National Basketball League and Basketball Australia.

In 2007, he joined forces with NBL Legend Bruce Bolden in the very first radio broadcasts of Sydney Kings games and has been the play by play announcer for Sydney Kings Radio and Sydney Kings TV ever since. He was also the play by play caller on NBL.TV in the 2014-15 season and has called every game from the 2013 to 2015 NBL Blitz preseason tournaments.

In addition, Matt has had regular basketball segments on SEN Radio in Melbourne and Radio 2GB in Sydney, and has called games for ABC Radio.

A close friend of No1 Draft Pick Co-Founder Danny Kordahi, Matt is thrilled to be joining the team.

“I’m very excited to be a part of this and look forward to helping the company grow,” he said.

“When Danny outlined his vision for where he wanted to take No1 Draft Pick, I was on board immediately. Like me, he’s incredibly passionate about the sport and wants to do whatever he can to really drive it forward.”

“I’m looking forward to bringing back my ‘Matt’s Mouthpiece’ column and I’d like to get people engaged with it and providing their ideas on what they want me to write about.”

“I’m also excited to be working with people like Steve Carfino and Damian Cotter, two outstanding individuals who are held with the highest regard in our sport.”
